Struggling to Blog – Dr. George Tiller
The show must go on. Long day at work or no long day at work.
Energy secretary Steven Chu, the same guy who wants to paint America white, is saying a “snafu” led to the posting of a list of 266 nuclear sites in the country on the Internet.
He said it was “a little embarrassing.”
I’d be embarrassed too, if I had just provided a blueprint for national nuclear armageddon to the public.

Did *I* do thaaaaaat?
This calls for an edition of How Unsafe does Phil the Pill feel?

In other news, it’s officially Gay Pride Month.
Officailly declaring it Gay Pride Month has also magically erased discrimination, homophobia, and lack of civil rights.

Thank you, President Obama. Thank you.
Moving right, along, so who is China trying to fool? Silencing people on the anniversary of Tienanmen Square? Does that work?
I would feel bad for the Chinese citizen that isn’t aware what of what happened 20 years ago. Perhaps China isn’t naïve enough to believe that people don’t know it happened…but they’ll figure they won’t get angry and revolt if they just make sure it can’t be talked about? The Chinese are going to have a rude awakening when they realize that not dealing with their human rights violations won’t work in their favor when people finally get sick of it.
Final topic, one that I was unable to address when the hysteria was going on in the media: the murder of Dr. George Tiller.
I know and respect a few people who believe unconditionally that abortion is murder. I can even understand their position to a point. What if the pro-choice crowd is fundamentally misunderstanding the nature of the act? If it’s wrong to kill an already-born infant, an animal, or a defenseless person, I can see how it’d be wrong to kill a child in the womb. I certainly don’t believe in abortion out of simple convenience. I think it should be a difficult decision and, in many cases, might not be justified.
Anti-abortionists are able to provide stats and anecdotes that shed Dr. George Tiller’s late-term abortion policies in a morally questionable light. Tiller’s supporters emphasize that he has saved women’s lives and prevented the suffering of a child with birth defects. And I think the rational answer is that we’ll never know whether George Tiller was a bad man. Who can really look into a man’s soul and read his motivations?
Okay, okay, I know one theory. But if you believe in God, then I would hope you believe that only God can execute evil people.
My issue isn’t that I think ever pro-lifer is becoming more violent as the movement gets more frenzied and miliant. I firmly believe that most murderers have fundamental problems unrelated to their poltical or religious beliefs. Scott Roeder was one such disturbed person. He wasn’t your typical neighbor who picketts abortion clinics and votes Republican. He was a mentally imbalanced anarchist. If he didn’t kill over this, in another life, where abortion isn’t so heavily publicized, he would have killed over something else, I bet.
So, no, I wouldn’t rush to say the pro-lifers are becoming killers.
But I would be disturbed if pro-life people found any sort of justification in Roeder’s actions.
To be perfectly fair, just about every major religious and anti-abortion organization has condemned the murder. It’s only the same old fringe wackos declaring Roeder an American hero or trying to cloud the event with political arguments (why didn’t the BLACK murderer get condemned by Obama? Seriously, guys?)
But the problem today is that…I wouldn’t be surprised if I met a pro-life person who felt that this was somehow less of a tragedy because the man was an abortion doctor. And that’s frightening. Not that perfectly normal Americans may become murderers…but that they would become desensitized to murder because their politics teaches them to hate “the other side.” That’s a problem. And that’s not what Christanity teaches, last I checked.
A murder is a murder. Whether or not Tiller had it coming to him is not the point. Whether or not this means that pro-lifers are raising up in arms and coming to enact God’s wrath on baby-killer is also distorting the question.
The question is — are we really going to devalue a man’s life because he stands for something we’ve decided we’re against? This is a tired commentary, but…if that’s the case, than what’s there about life to be so pro about?
Dr. Tiller tied in a terrible way. No one should die like that. And anyone who supports this action is sorely misguided and representing their people poorly.
E3 coverage this week.
